At MARIA’s rescue, our team found that there were other dogs running around free, including a bitch with matted fur and a very bad leg. We didn’t hesitate and drove her straight away to the vet, where to our astonishment we found that the bitch was chipped, i.e. had an owner and that her leg had been broken for a long time. The owner was called immediately and was very unapologetic. In her opinion she did everything for her dog and she is doing very well. The bitch is responsible for the untreated leg injury! So that we could have Fofinha treated and she didn’t have to go back to this owner, we immediately called in the police and the official veterinarian, described the facts, presented the veterinarian’s examination results and showed the bitch. The official veterinarian, who described the dog’s condition as “criminal”, then contacted the owner and asked her to sign the papers to transfer the chip. A complaint was also made to the police. FOFINHA’s matted fur was cut out, it was dewormed and had received a spot on. Her blood was tested and it was found that she did not suffer from tick bite fever, heartworms or leishmaniasis. The leg was x-rayed and unfortunately had to be amputated. Since the little one had only been walking with three legs for a long time, the changeover was not a major problem for her. After Fofinha had fully recovered, she was finally allowed to travel to her family in Sweden. And there she now lives happily with a lot of nature, other dogs and, above all, very nice people.
